Wise Family

The love of family is so strong! When a sister’s 5 year old daughter is diagnosed with a semi-rare form of liver cancer, her family banded together to help raise money for medical expenses through a silent auction.  As a friend of the family, there was NO hesitation to help by donating a Grande photo session!

I first met Chandra, this mom’s sister, through my college sorority.  We became very close and have kept in touch over the years.  I was honored to photograph Chandra’s wedding reception in 2012 (they got married in Vegas with a small gathering) and be pregnant at the same time with our daughters.

Over the years, Chandra has experienced some health issues along with her daughter, Marissa’s, premature birth in 2013.  In addition, Marissa has had her own list of medical issues including open heart surgery at 18 month and being diagnosed with Stage 3 Hepatoblastoma Liver Cancer at age 4.

As anyone knows, cancer is a very nasty disease and takes over a variety of areas inside a body.  It also can be very costly to treat, even with good health insurance.  Marissa’s family came together to hold a silent auction to raise funds for her treatments and help arrange meal deliveries for her family.  Being a cancer survivor myself along with my husband, I immediately offered to donate a Grande photo session to help my friend’s family.

Family for the win!

Chandra’s sister, Rachel, was the lucky winner of my donated session and I finally got to photograph her beautiful and fun family this October at Smithville Lake’s Smoke & Davey Trailhead.  We had beautiful weather, the beginning of fall colors, a bunch of laughs, and some great photos to prove it!

While the fall colors are pretty much gone now thanks to the lovely Missouri freezes and snows, There are still plenty of great areas for photos around the KC and surrounding areas.  If you’re interested in booking a family session, please CLICK HERE!

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to more posts in the future!  Happy shooting!
